Hello. I wonder if I can put waqs Formica desk in a great old wood?

I just bought this wooden conference table in it the condition original, which is excellent with only minor discoloration. However, I bought to use as a craft table for rubber stamping and scrapbooking workshops. The room is lavender with white trim and all my other furniture in the room is a bright white. I've been told I'm crazy for wanting to refinish this piece but I do not buy it for a family heirloom, which I bought for a purpose and I am a real type-Matchy Matchy person ……. Can anyone help me with this? I wonder if I can cover the desk with Formica laminate? I know this is what they use on the counters and this tends to keep forever. Any help with this and / or a reference in the Cleveland, Ohio area would be great! Thank you very much for your time. Nicole:)

I get some plywood or wood for cover and just use gaffer tape to hold it in place, in this way will not damage the top and you can keep someone in the future to enjoy.
